Expedition Someday Switzerland
Someday became this day when I realized this trip wasn’t just about showing my mom the Munich I love. Not when the train tracks could carry us straight into the heart of Switzerland listening to alpine cowbells and…..
The Bavarian capital to the Swiss Alps?
Nice but have you tried
Chasing ghosts in Tyrol, Spotting chimera’s in Alsace
and riding a cable car so steep I still don’t understand the math?

This trip became an expedition the moment we zoomed in on the map and let the train tracks guide us. Curving to a last-minute dash down Ludwigstraße in Partenkirchen, and into the icy glacier water of Lake Geneva.
Armed with pastries for the trains and fueled by Radlers and coffees, we spent over twenty hours on the rails, crossed four countries in spring, and I still haven’t named half the highlights. This is Expedition: Someday Switzerland as it happened.
Departing Phoenix–April 26th 2025
Bright and early and right on time. I couldn’t ask for more.
Munich –April 27th – May 1st
I’m always happy to be in Munich

Cafe to Fuel the Day
I asked a lot of this little Cubano, and Italian pastry.
I don’t know what I ordered just that it had decadent pistachio cream, and the small cup had proper a boost of caffeine.
Munich is a city whose welcoming embrace can be felt even past the brain fog of a transatlantic flight.
Rattenberg, Austria — April 29th 7:44-12:40
A special show case of Tyrol. I’ve still got ghosts to chase here.
Innsbruck, Austria — April 29th 12:40-18:28
There’s more to see in this city than we did in the sunniest peak of the day.
Nördlingen — April 30th 14:21-16:22
This walled city has a special taste and views of red roofs stretched out beyond old city gates from the wall.
Garmisch Partenkirchen — May 1st – May 4th
The perfect towns to dip our toes into Bavaria.
Mittenwald & Leutasch — May 3rd 8:28–15:36
This day was a true ode to the mystic beauty of the Alps.
Heidelberg — May 4th-May 6th
A red stoned castle ruin guarding a town worth meandering sat somewhere on the Neckar river. I’m under Heidelberg’s spell.
Strasbourg, France — May 6th – May 8th
Alsace with time to roam, and go Chimera spotting.

Chimera Spotting
Glancing out the cathedral tower windows, our sanctuary from the bustling square. We found two stone creatures perched above the city, sharing their view with us.
From below they were just specks in the stonework. But here, standing on cool carved stairs with Strasbourg stretched out around us, their details came to life. one perhaps a gargoyle, its head carved where the gutter begins. Almost cute, from up here.
Colmar France — May 7th 7:51 – 11:06
An old town too much like a fairy tale to not visit for breakfast.
Freiburg Im Breisgau May 8th– May 9th
I always have space on my itinerary for Freiburg
Montreux — May 9th – May 10th
The swiss Rivera glimpses of something off beat than a lake view, and glossy facade to wash it all away. Somewhere I’d love to glimpse again.
Golden Pass Express — May 10th 12:33-15:43
Stunning scenery, above vineyards, through the alps. A train that makes the case for a panoramic ride splurge.
Lauterbrunnen area—May 10th-May 14th
Alpine hikes, and mountain villages reached by cable car and the clanging jingle of cowbells.

Alpine Goat Bells
Leaving the tree line behind us, the trail curved upward, green grass speckled with wildflowers surrounding a small hut.
I blinked. Then blinked again — unsure if I was imagining the fenced-in pasture and its occupants.
A goat glared and bleated back.
“Yes, I have a bell. What do you have to say about it?”
I nodded, snapped a photo, and kept walking. I wasn’t looking for trouble.
We knew we’d find cows with bells.
No one told us about the goats.
Zurich — May 14th-16th
Any coin saved by choosing Zurich airport as my exit was spent in the alleys of Zurich, one chocolate indulgence at a time.
Zurich Airport May 16th
One last glass of Swiss one and a sandwhich. Coin spent at the airpot hardly counts right?
